Welcome the new sbt community maintainer - Muki!

Eugene Yokota Scala Team, Lightbend, Inc.

A new community maintainer Muki

We are happy to welcome a new sbt matainer and committer from the community! Muki (@muuki88) will be working as part-time sbt maintainer. Thanks gutefrage.net for sponsoring Muki’s work on sbt.

Muki:

I’m very happy that gutefrage.net (@gutefrageIT) steps up for open source development and sponsors my work on sbt, even though our IT operations are relatively small. I hope to bring my experience with sbt-native-packager to the core sbt platform and really look forward to join forces with some fine Scala folks.

Muki is a co-organizer in Munich Scala User Group, and has been one of the friendliest faces in German Scala community. He has been a long-time maintainer of sbt-native-packager, evolving it into the de facto standard on creating Docker image from a Scala application.

Moving sbt and Zinc to the Apache v2 License

A while back we’ve announced on Discuss that we are moving sbt and Zinc to Apache v2 license. Since the feedback period has ended without any objections, we are going forward with the plan.

We think this is a small but meaningful step forward to make sbt and Zinc better citizens in the opensource ecosystem.

Participation

Thanks again to gutefrage.net and others who has helped improve sbt and Zinc 1 by using them, reporting bugs, improving our documentation, porting builds, porting plugins, and submitting and reviewing pull requests.

For anyone interested in helping sbt, there are many avenues you could help, depending on your interest.

  • Help someone at work or online fix their build problem.
  • Answer StackOverflow questions.
  • Report issues.
  • Maintain and update documentation.
  • Garden issue tracker.
  • Patch the core (send pull requests to code).

If you’re interested, Contributing, “help wanted”, “good first issue” are good starting points. If you have ideas, come talk to us on sbt-contrib or on Lightbend Discuss.
