At Lightbend our engineering teams are all about Reactive Systems and that comes with DDD, or Domain Driven Design. Our Product Management team uses DDD too, though as a slightly different abbreviation: Data Driven Decisions. To make better decisions every company needs good data, so we partnered with Channel Media & Market Research to conduct a persona and insights survey. In the survey technical architects, heads of application development or engineering and developers answered a range of questions about how they build applications in their companies.

We got some awesome results that we want to share with you, so we put them together in the infographic below.

How the study was conducted:

The study was executed between May 25, 2021 and June 12, 2021. Respondents were invited to participate in the survey via an email invitation. In total, this study yielded 846 completed surveys in the United States. All responses were obtained from an independent sample (no contacts from Lightbend were used in the fielding of this study) and the average survey lasted 13 minutes. At no time was Lightbend revealed as the sponsor of the study. A drawing for five $250.00 visa gift cards was used to encourage response.

All respondents in this study:

  • were either technical architect/enterprise architect (n= 215), head of application development/head of engineering/engineering manager (n= 207) and/or developer (n= 424)
  • 51% are using “serverless” for their application development environment (n= 432) and 49% were not (n= 414)
  • 100% are located in the United States

This study has a 98% confidence level with a margin of error of +/- 2%
