New Certification Brings Scala, Akka and Play Framework to Microsoft Azure, as Well as Windows Dev Center
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Oct 28, 2014) - Typesafe, a Reactive platform provider and the company behind Play Framework, Akka, and Scala, today announced that it has joined the Microsoft Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Partnership Program. By certifying the Typesafe Reactive Platform for building modern applications on Microsoft Azure, Typesafe will bring the power and flexibility of Azure to a broader audience of developers.
As a member of the Microsoft ISV Partnership Program, Typesafe will extend the Reactive Maps Activator template to Azure -- allowing developers to experiment with the Typesafe Reactive Platform (Play Framework, Akka, and Scala) natively within Azure. For Azure developers seeking to build resilient and message-driven applications that scale effortlessly on multicore and cloud environments, Reactive Maps provides an interactive tutorial for getting started. Typesafe will announce additional tools and support options for Azure customers building Reactive applications later this year.
"We're thrilled that Azure has made it possible for anyone to run an open source stack with Microsoft," said Hywel Evans, Director of Alliances at Typesafe. "As passionate leaders in the open source community, we are honored to be able to bring Typesafe technologies to the Microsoft ecosystem."
"Typesafe and Microsoft Open Technologies are motivated by a common commitment to the open source community and share a goal to equip developers with the best tools for the job," said Gianugo Rabellini, senior director of open source communities at Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc. "Because open source is now a key building block for enterprise IT strategies, Typesafe is a natural fit for supporting the development of reactive, modern applications. We're excited to welcome them to Microsoft Azure Certified and the Azure Marketplace."
